TURK’S CAP (Malvaviscus arboreus var. drummondii) is a great Texas-tough native perennial that can take heat, moderate shade, and even full sun, while attracting hummingbirds and some species of butterflies. The cultivar ‘Pam Puryear’ has soft pink flowers; and ‘Fiesta’ is a variegated form with yellow and white splotched leaves. You need one...or two...or three...! | GardenLine

Hey everyone! This is Ranger Eric. If you've ever wanted a native shrub to plant in your yard that is great for attracting hummingbirds and other pollinators, Turk's Cap is a wonderful option! I hope y'all enjoy this quick video I made talking about this awesome plant, even though I failed miserably at filming any Hummingbird's alongside them. I swear, I tried! Have a good one y'all! | Lake Livingston State Park - Texas Parks and Wildlife

Did you know there’s a giant Turk’s Cap? 🌺 Unlike the traditional variety, this showstopper can grow up to 8–12 feet tall with bold leaves and oversized red blooms that hummingbirds and butterflies can’t resist! 🦋 It’s Texas tough, thrives in sun or part shade, handles heat and drought like a champ, and even comes back year after year. ☀️ Just give it a little water to get established, then sit back and enjoy its blooms through fall.🍂 Plus they're on sale at both locations! 📍🌈😎 | Rainbow G

Turk's cap are great for propagating via cuttings. Cut a bit of stem the diameter and length of a pencil, trim off all the leaves, scrape the bark off the bottom 1/4"-1/2" of the stick, then place it in chlorine-free water. In 2-3 weeks it will have produced roots and new leaves. Once the roots are about 1" long, plant it in a nursery pot for the winter. Keep it on your windowsill, then plant it in the yard once the weather has started to warm up. | Merriwether's Foraging Texas

Sowing Green Things on Instagram: "Here’s a little 411 about the Wax mallow (Malvaviscus arboreus) ~ famously known as the Turk’s Cap! It’s a flowering shrub famous for its striking, unopened red flowers that resemble “sleeping hibiscus,” which are a magnet for hummingbirds and butterflies. It’s a hardy, easy-to-care-for plant here in zone 9b. They can grow in poor soil, take quite a bit of sun to partial shade, and pretty drought tolerant ~ that is my experience!"
