SOSD takes in 20-30 dogs a month, and houses 80 dogs at our centre at any time. They were one homeless, abandoned, or given up by their owners. Once rescued, they undergo rehabilitation to prepare them for their new, permanent home. Contrary to what many people think, rescued dogs make excellent companions. Like any other dog, they love pats, know how to do tricks, and they enjoy a good belly rub. They are friendly and sociable as well. The ADORE program now allows medium sized missed breed dogs

Ever wondered what it takes to run a dog shelter? Caring for dozens of rescue dogs means providing food, medical care, and a safe space—every single day. But beyond the belly rubs and happy tails wagging, there are also shelter upkeep costs, manpower, rent, and even the tough reality of end-of-life care that we need to pay for. That’s why support from the community means so much. Thanks to @buddybites.sg's ongoing donations of around 300–400kg of food each month, we can focus more on the dogs wh

BB Girl, the stray that lives under the lorry (new rescue) Amidst the recent rough handling / trapping of the Seletar farm dogs, humane trappers do exist with kinder, more professional ways of trapping strays. We were contacted by SOSD if we could take in a stray with a huge tumour on its neck. One of the feeders called AVS for help as the dog was very lethargic and not moving. AVS contractors came down, at short notice, and gently coaxed the dog into a crate. The dog was rushed to one of AVS ap

🐾 Over the past two months, SOSD has been bringing rescue dogs into preschools, workplaces and neighbourhoods, sharing not only their stories but also the values of empathy, kindness and responsible pet care. 🏩 Every visit plants a seed — a child who learns to be gentle, a team inspired to give back, a community discovering the power of compassion — and together those seeds grow into a kinder Singapore for both animals and people. 🐕🦺 This short video captures some of the moments from our Au

It's raining puppies at the SOSD Rehabilitation Centre! Rescue numbers are at an all-time high with 40 puppies in the shelter and 80 at fosterers awaiting permanent homes. The reason for this is SOSD’s increased efforts in several Trap, Neuter, Release sites, where we are actively neutering dogs, and rescuing puppy litters, to keep the population stable. This way, the stray dogs problem in Singapore can finally end. We need your help to help these puppies find homes hence we are holding our LARG

As with all our dogs, it is standard practice to take them straight to the vet after rescue. We had just take 4 dogs out from the breeders - 2 young adults and 2 young puppies. We headed straight to the vet. In the consult room, while waiting for the vet, one puppy slept. Little did the volunteers know that the puppy had fainted! They thought the puppy was so tired and fell asleep. Thankfully a nurse came in, saw the puppy and rushed it inside to see the vet! Apparently the puppy had fainted fro

In a foster home, a dog learns all about feeling safe. What being loved and having a bed is like. That food will come, and hands won’t hurt them. And when people leave, it doesn’t mean they’re being abandoned again. If you’ve ever thought, “I can’t adopt, but I still want to help”, this is how. Our fosterers get to work with rescue dogs in need towards better brighter days, preparing them for a better chance at finding a forever home. There are challenges for sure, but it’s also extremely meanin

Meet Crescent — a sweet, soulful rescue dog with an unshakable spirit... and a surprising gift for art. In this reel, you’ll see Crescent create her masterpiece “Brushes of Joy” — a vibrant burst of reds, blues, and yellows, made with nothing but her paws, a gentle nudge of encouragement, and a whole lot of heart. But this isn’t just a painting. It’s a piece of her journey. It’s resilience in color. It’s her way of saying: “I may not have a home yet, but I have so much love to give.” 💫 Own a on

Fosterers are the unsung heroes who open their homes and hearts to dogs in need, helping them heal, learn to trust, and experience love. Though Cadbury’s time may be limited, he is spending his days surrounded by comfort, care, and love — all thanks to his amazing foster family. We’re so grateful to them, and to all our fosterers, for making stories like Cadbury’s possible ❤️. Become a fosterer and help our rescue dogs on their journey to finding a forever home. 🖤 Did you know black and dark-colored dogs are often more overlooked and of the last to be adopted in shelters? This issue is commonly referred to as Black Dog Syndrome (BDS). That’s why we celebrate National Black Dog Day every 1 October to spread awareness that every pup deserves a home and highlight our lovable black and dark-colored pups at ASD. Here’s how you can help on #NationalBlackDogDay: 🐾 Adopt a black dog and give a loving home to a pup who’s often passed over. 📲 Like and share th

Greta, the lighter coloured sheltie in this video, was an ex-breeding dog that we rescued back in May 2024. She had the worst spine we had ever seen. What was more upsetting was that she was not born that way, but became that way because breeding dogs are treated just as money-making wombs, and not sentient beings. Confined to a small cage her whole life, made to keep mating and giving birth, never having a chance to experience a real walk, her spine became deformed. Such deformity brought such

Seeking a chill buddy to laze around with at home? Zeus is up for adoption and might just be the right paw-pal for you! From being paralyzed (due to injuries as a stray) just a few months back, to steadily zipping around now - how far Zeus has come! He has improved leaps, to the point that he walks fast enough to need a leash to keep up with him. He loves to walk, is grass-trained and will wait patiently for his fosterers to bring him out to poop and pee. Deprived of love from 15 years of living

Do dogs suffer from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)? Definitely. In humans, when faced with extreme stress, the brain can trigger neurological issues that may lead to behavioural and cognitive deficits. Tiny was an ex-breeding dog, rescued 5 years ago. In the last 5 years, this is the second time that she has literally gone berserk and suffered temporary memory loss, not recognizing her family members for two days. The first incident was 3 years back, apparently triggered by physical fear,

Many of our recent rescues (Holly, Inky, Lavender, Kylie and Max) were infected with ringworms. When people hear the word ringworm, they get frightened and this makes it very difficult for the dogs to find fosters. But many a time, it’s the unknown that we are fearful of, right? In reality, ringworm is a fungal infection and plainly put, no worms are involved 😊 As with most fungal infections, ringworm is not life threatening and tends to infect those who have a weakened immune system. Looking at these pictures of our rescues with their perky trots and waggly tails, can you believe that every single one of them had a horrific past? Abandonment, gross neglect, abuse, and even accidents. Its jaw-dropping the dreadful state we initially found them in, usually at the mercy of our fellow humans. But judging from their cheerful disposition, one could never guess the misery they have been through. At Hope Dog Rescue, we believe that everyone, humans and dogs alike, all deserve a seco
