In 1993, Seattle Opera invited #Chihuly to design the sets for a new production of Debussy's "Pelléas et Mélisande." Chihuly first sketched the designs in acrylic paint and then created glass maquettes, which were then translated into the final sets—including 35-foot-tall columns of iridescent Mylar made to look like glass tree trunks.
