Oct 4, 2019 · Terminal will list all disks on or attached to the Mac. look for the usb and note it's identifier. for example on my Mac there is a FAT32 USB attached, it is an internet dongle its Identifier is disk6s2, see below. your USB disk will have an identifier similar but will probably have a different number, back to Terminal and enter the text,

Aug 28, 2011 · Are you saying you have a drive that is formatted Mac OS extended and you want to reformat it for MS-DOS (FAT 32)? If so you can just select the volume, select the format you want, and apply. (A mounted drive has at least 2 icons in Disk Utility, the top one is the drive and the second is the volume.

Sep 21, 2018 · how to format external drives When I erase usb memory sticks I choose Mac OS extended journaled. After erasing the enhed is however, unusable. Although I'm running High Sierrra 10.13.6 the default option is Mac OS extended. The original format on the memory stick is MS-DOS fat 32.

Aug 17, 2021 · Usually it is recommened to format exFAT (GUID) on the Mac although I have had no trouble with exFAT disks formatted with the Windows 10 default. About NTFS, I'd ask Paragon support. I have had no trouble with the few NTFS disks on Intel Macs (i.e. read-only with Mac's built-in support) but AFAIR M1 Macs have had some issues with them.

Mar 17, 2024 · The instructions are clear and precise but Disk Utility has now become so automatic that it's making assumptions I don't want. So, the drive I formatted also has a bunch of other hidden Mac folders and files on it. So, again, I ask respectfully, how do I format a USB drive of 15gb capacity in Fat32 without a bunch of hidden Mac folders/files.
