May 9, 2007 · ALCo produced the DL-109 from 1940-1945. As a rule, the War Production Board ordered ALCo and Baldwin to produce switchers and EMD to produce road power during the Second World War. ALCo managed to get an exception from the WPB to produce DL-109s for the NYNH&H, only. The DL-109s were rendering excellent service to that road.

Aug 20, 2010 · The DL-109 is indeed an attractive locomotive. But, again it was only used by 4 railroads to my knowledge; New Haven, Rock Island, Southern and, Milwaukee. Another Alco product, the PA series was used by multiple roads; AT&SF, UP, SP, MP, Southern, NYC, PRR, and probably some more that I just don't remember.
New Walthers Rock Island Alco DL-109
Apr 29, 2013 · Just received my Alco DL-109's (622, 623) from Walthers yesterday, a complete surprise. According to the forums the locos were cancelled because of low preorder numbers. I haven't run them yet, but they are great looking. Any ideas for a possible decoder for dcc? Pictures later. Regards, Mike M.

Mar 2, 2013 · Here's an excerpt from the Wikipedia entry on DL 109's: "The units on the Milwaukee logged over 3 million miles by 1953, and were overhauled. The motors and prime movers were sent to Alco for rebuilding, and the shopmen at the Milwaukee Road's Menomonee Valley shops rebuilt the locomotives.

Oct 4, 2021 · ALCO PA-1s and Fairbanks-Morse CPA24-5s, primarily, among the diesels, though they also had ALCO and F-M road switchers and were just getting EMD FL-9s. Of the streamlined units, the ALCOs will by far be the easiest to find. A roadswitcher would be very appropriate, though, for a five car train of older equipment. ALCO RS-3 or F-M H16-44.
