So an 8TB should be faster, but the largest increases are usually seen going from the smallest size (256GB/512GB) to the next (1TB/2TB) and then it starts to drop off as you get in the 4TB/8TB range.

Currently my data footprint (excluding backups) is about 4TB so I only need one Time Machine drive.
