Jun 27, 2022 · It really depends how much you are paying for the CPU... Looks like the best option might be an Xeon E3-1270 v5 which is about $60-90 on ebay. I'd also keep in mind that supported memory speed for 6th gen is DDR4 2133, and for 7th gen its 2400. So neither one will allow full use of your DDR4 2666 kit.

An R7 5700X which is a $170 CPU is way faster than the 9900K. The 7800X3D is $380 new, for quite literally top of the line gaming performance. If you can't afford that, get R5 7500F/7600 instead for $155/190 respectively.

Dec 22, 2022 · The LGA1151 socket ran across 4 generations of cpu. The standard 1151 was for 6th and 7th generation. Intel then did a chipset upgrade, introduced the 300 series boards and these were compatible with 8th and 9th generation processors only.

I currently have a I7 860 w/ 16gb ddr3 ram and it's probably fine, but I just picked up a computer with an LGA 1151 MOBO and 8gb ddr4 memory for $100. The only problem is the processor is a G4400. I figure moving from DDR3 TO DDR4 and from 45nm to 14nm is going to be a good upgrade. My server runs OMV5.

Dec 8, 2023 · Not really worth investing on that outdated platform. The best CPU you can use is a 7700k and today's i3 will run miles around it in terms of gaming. Also don't bother with 120mm AIOs, they're trash for their value. Just get an air cooler. If you must go AIO, then get a 240mm AIO at least for use with a better CPU later on.

Apr 18, 2016 · If you're thinking LGA 1151, your only choice is Intel. To answer your question, 6700k is the best, but if this is for gaming, the 6600k will be a much better value, and if you're not interested in overclocking, get a non k CPU.
