Around 40 million people in the U.S. are under a winter storm warning from an unusual blast of severe cold weather and snow across the South.

A historic winter storm swept across the Gulf Coast on Tuesday, bringing heavy snow and icy conditions to the Southeast while most of the country was facing dangerously cold temperatures from an arctic blast that arrived over the weekend.

A week and a half later, another part of Texas is being threatened by snowfall from another winter storm that will move across the central and southern parts of the state. This area rarely sees snow and according to the National Weather Service, some areas could see as much as 5 to 7 inches of the white powdery stuff.

Houston was blasted with at least three inches of snow as a historic winter storm moved across the Gulf Coast and through the city. A historic winter storm will drop rare amounts of snow from Texas across the northern Gulf Coast. Many places will see their heaviest snow in decades, and modern day records could fall.
