Toronto Maple Leafs star forward John Tavares will be a free agent come July 1 and he's predicted to sign a $32.5 million deal.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are quietly working on securing the futures of two of their cornerstone players, Mitch Marner and John Tavares, according to the latest reports.

Former Maple Leafs Patrick Marleau and Jake Muzzin have joined John Tavares in his legal battle against the Canada Revenue Agency. John Tavares' legal trouble with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) became public this summer when it was revealed that he was facing an 8 million dollar tax bill.

Tavares, 34, has been pivotal for the Leafs this season with new captain Auston Matthews missing ample time at different points through the first part of the campaign. In 39 games, Tavares has scored 19 goals and provided 20 assists for 39 total points and a perfect point-per-game average even though he's already 34 years old.
