BILLINGS — Citing the continuing plunge in the palladium market, Sibanye Stillwater announced Thursday in a letter to employees that it will undergo restructuring and layoff s at its Montana operations. The mining operations near Nye in Stillwater County are the largest employer in Stillwater County and produce palladium and platinum.

The community is still coping with the news of significant layoffs from Sibanye Stillwater's operations in Montana, affecting facilities in Nye, Columbus, and East Boulder.

Sibanye Stillwater plans to restructure its Montana mines, cutting palladium and platinum production by up to 45% to boost profitability.
