A former New York state trooper has pleaded guilty to charges that he shot himself then falsely claimed he was wounded by an unknown gunman on a Long Island highway.

Two people have been taken to a hospital in Northern New York following a shooting in Fort Ann, according to New York State Police. At around 9 p.m., police responded to a home on Clay Hill Road, about 15 miles from Poultney, Vermont. When they arrived, police said they found two people lying in the roadway.
