Brendan Smith is the last Detroit Red Wings draft pick from 2007 or earlier still active in the NHL. At least he hopes he’ll be in the NHL for another season. The 36-year-old defenseman signed a professional tryout contract Tuesday with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed long time veteran Brendan Smith to a PTO today. Smith has played 726 games for the Dallas Stars, New Jersey Devils, Carolina Hurricanes, New York Rangers and Detroit Red Wings, and has a total of 144 points.
