The Atlanta Falcons have moved on from Kirk Cousins as their starter, and yet, they're not ready to say goodbye. During the 2024 offseason, the Falcons signed Cousins to a four-year, $180 million contract.

Given that recent history and what Morris did in 2024, it’s no great surprise to learn Michael Penix and Kirk Cousins will not be taking the field on Friday for the team’s preseason opener against the Detroit Lions.

Cousins nevertheless has remained with the Falcons through the early days of training camp. During a recent chat with NFL insider Dan Graziano of ESPN, Falcons general manager Terry Fontenot insisted that having Cousins on the roster won't be a negative for Penix anytime soon.
