The largest solar farm ever proposed for Kent could generate enough power for 140,000 homes, 20% of those in the county, according to those behind the plans. Energy firm Low Carbon has revealed plans for a 500 megawatt (MW) facility on Romney Marsh.

The world’s largest offshore solar farm is being connected to the grid. The 3,000-acre installation, five miles off the coast of northeastern China’s Shandong province, is fixed to the seabed and, when operating at full capacity, can generate a gigawatt of electricity, enough to power about a million homes.

China’s CHN Energy has connected the first solar units from its 1-gigawatt (GW) offshore solar farm – the world’s first and largest of its kind – to the grid. The massive project is located off the coast of Dongying City in Shandong Province, eastern China.

Nearly 3 million households will benefit from this. State-owned CHN Energy has made significant progress in its one-gigawatt offshore solar plant in Kenli, Shandong with the grid connection of its first batch of photovoltaic (PV) units.
