The Indian government is in talks seeking to resolve a long-running conflict between two ethnic communities in the northeastern state of Manipur, Interior Minister Amit Shah said at a press conference on Tuesday.

Indian authorities should urgently intervene to address renewed violence between ethnic groups in India’s northeastern state of Manipur.

A new round of clashes and exchange of gunfire took place on Sept. 7 in the district of Jiribam, located on India’s border with Myanmar. Amid the violence, the state government ordered all schools in the state to remain shut on Saturday “to protect the safety of the students and teachers”.

Amit Shah said that except for recent violence that went on for three days, no major incident took place in the last 3 months.
