They’ve replaced the 512 MB modules with 1GB memory offering a higher clock ( 8 Gbps over 7 Gbps). Due to the change, the GTX 970 now counts with 8GB instead of the original 4GB VRAM.
I went from a 4GB GTX 970 to a 6GB RTX 2060, and the jump in performance was already staggering with a Haswell i7. I can only imagine how much better the jump to the RTX 3060 would be for you!
