Only minutes after being sworn in as the 47th President of the United States, President Donald Trump praised Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s border security policies and promised Texas would have support from Washington now that he was in office.

The new president said he’ll work with Abbott to quickly build the border wall and crack down on illegal immigration.

The new president said he would designate drug cartels terrorists and send troops to the southern border to repel an “invasion," even as crossings are at a low.

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump will declare a national emergency, send troops to the southern border, deport undocumented immigrants en masse and reinstate a policy requiring asylum seekers to wait their cases in Mexico — and Gov. Greg Abbott will be a key partner, he said during his inauguration on Monday.

Abbott’s appearance will come just a week after he joined other Republican governors around the nation at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort.
