Michigan hockey may have split their series against Ohio State over the weekend, but the No. 9-ranked Wolverines still had plenty to celebrate after their trip to the Windy City for the opening game of an outdoor Big Ten hockey event.

After neither team found the net during the three-on-three overtime period, Ohio State eventually ended the game in a seven-round shootout. Nonetheless, the final score moved Wisconsin to an impressive 20-1-1, 14-1-1 WCHA on the season and concluded the Badgers’ season series against the Buckeyes (13-5-3, 8-5-3 WCHA).

Wisconsin men’s hockey fell to the Michigan State Spartans in overtime at ‘The Frozen Confines: Big Ten Hockey Series,’ an outdoor event at Chicago’s Wrigley Field on Saturday. Ranked No. 1 in the USA TODAY/USA Hockey Poll, the Spartans opened the contest with a 2-0 edge in the second quarter. Wisconsin, however, battled back.

The conditions were frigid and the temperatures dropped with each whistle, but fans of both the #1 Wisconsin Badgers’ and #2 Ohio State Buckeyes’ women’s hockey teams wore their finest red outfits and brought the enthusiasm to Chicago’s Wrigley Field as the Badgers and Buckeyes played to a 3-3 tie.
