The U.S. stock market swung through another unsettled day of trading, ahead of a couple of crucial tests for Wall Street.

US stocks were mixed on Wednesday, with the Dow posting a fresh record but Big Tech stocks wobbling as chances grew that the record-long US shutdown will end soon. Meanwhile, hopes are rising for a key House vote that could end the longest government shutdown in US history as soon as today.

Major stock indexes ended sharply lower to begin the week, which will see AI darling Nvidia and retail giants report quarterly results, as well as the release of the September jobs report delayed because of the U.

US stock market futures fell today as the S&P 500 extended a three-day slide. Nvidia and Oracle dropped again as investors questioned high AI valuations and rising data-center debt. Dow futures slipped 140 points or 0.

AI pioneer Nvidia was again the heaviest weight on the market. The chipmaker's drop of 3.2% brought its loss for the month to nearly 11%, putting it in "correction" territory, or when a stock falls at least 10% from its previous high. The company is scheduled to report is third-quarter financial results on Wednesday.

The U.S. stock market tumbled to one of its worst days since its springtime sell-off. The S&P 500 sank 1.7% Thursday and pulled further from its all-time high set late last month.

Nvidia is unlikely to announce a stock split on Nov. 19. However, there are plenty of other reasons to be excited about Nvidia's prospects, and it's worth considering buying now as a result.
