JJ Peterka had a goal and an assist and had the deciding goal in the shootout to help lead the Buffalo Sabres to a 4-3 win against the Washington Capitals on Monday night.

The Washington Capitals' start to action at KeyBank Center didn't go as planned against the Buffalo Sabres, as the team was trailing late. But the Capitals did what they've done best all season: stayed in the fight and found a way to escape with a point. Unfortunately, they didn't have enough to get the second one.

Alex Tuch and Tage Thompson also scored for the Sabres. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 25 saves and stopped three of four shooters in the shootout to end their three-game losing skid. Tuch also scored during the shootout.
