As temperatures look to take another tumble in the upcoming week, the City of Akron will extend hours at the Summit County Lake Community Center which serves as a warming center for those in need.

Warming centers and respite spots are available across metro Detroit as cold winds sweep across the region this week.

"Try to get them [unhoused individuals] in if you can, or tell them to stop them and make them aware that the warming centers are open. Get in. Its gonna be cold. Half the time, they don't have phones. Our folks don't have phones to keep up with the weather. We want to make sure we're saving lives at all costs."
