The University of Houston is set to ban TikTok, alerting those on campus that the popular video social media app will be outlawed from its network in the new year. University of Houston educators, staff and students received a memo from the university system on Wednesday,

Starting in January, the University of Houston will extend its existing TikTok Ban to block anyone from accessing the platform while on the school's Wi-Fi.

The University of Houston System has expanded its restrictions on TikTok with a ban on downloading and using the app on the campus' Wi-Fi network. Students, faculty and staff will no longer be able to use the social media platform on the UH network starting Jan.

The move comes in response to Texas Governor Greg Abbott's 2022 directive ordering all state agencies to ban select technologies and apps, including TikTok.
