The Bay Area is preparing for the impact a federal government shutdown could have on thousands of federal workers, parks, and the annual Fleet Week celebration starting Monday.

Vallejo police on Tuesday canvassed the area around a home on 14th Street.

Yan Wang, 45, of Oakland, is accused of aiding her boyfriend, Howard Wang, after the Walnut Creek slayings of his wife and mother-in-law. The defendants both happen to have the same last name.

The city of Oakland is poised to pay bicyclist Ty Whitehead a record $7 million after his wheel struck a pothole on Skyline Boulevard, causing him to be in a coma and suffer a long-term brain injury.
