The four other teams that spent over $250 million this season — the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies and Toronto Blue Jays — all clinched playoff berths.

There have been times this season -- and even this month -- where the idea of the Reds making the playoffs seemed improbable, if not far-fetched. One way or another though, they figured out a way to get back in the race.
