Melbourne Stars remain winless after their first five matches of BBL14 with a loss to Sydney Thunder on Saturday night all but putting a line through their finals hopes.

Melbourne Stars have won the toss and opted to field first against Sydney Thunder at the Manuka Oval in Canberra.

The only negative for the men in lime green was a suspected repeat of a bicep tear for legspinner Jason Sangha, hurt after high-fiving teammates after taking Maxwell’s wicket. The result moves the Thunder back into the top four with a 2-1 record, while the Stars are 0-5 despite having one of the best rosters in the BBL.

Melbourne Stars are set to face off against Sydney Thunder in game 14 of the Big Bash League (BBL) season 2024-25. The Stars have endured a disastrous start to their campaign, losing all four of their matches and sitting at the bottom of the BBL points table.

Beau Webster has been released from Australia's Test squad in Melbourne to play for the Stars against the Thunder in Canberra. Campbell Kellaway has also replaced Tom Rogers who has flown home to have scans on his hip flexor following the loss to the Sixers on Boxing Day.
