Gov. Jeff Landry’s request to deploy 1,000 Louisiana National Guard troops in the state’s cities drew mixed reactions across the state as local leaders waited to learn more details.

The Louisiana National Guard is awaiting federal approval to deploy up to 1,000 Guardsmen to support law enforcement in the state, and will work with local partners to develop a tailored operational approach for each city.

This November, the Louisiana National Guard’s 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, known as the Tiger Brigade, will mark 20 years since returning from its historic deployment to Iraq.

President Trump is expected to expand his use of National Guard troops across a number of U.S. cities this week, including Portland, Oregon. In Memphis, CBS News has learned a multi-federal agency task force will likely start patrols by mid-week.
