The popular Thousand Steps Beach in Laguna Beach is shut down following a landslide that sent debris and boulders down the cliffside early Friday, Jan. 31. Yellow caution tape blocked the steep stairs leading down to the area at 9th Avenue,

Most of the beach at PCH and 9th Avenue was reopened, but a portion directly beneath the landslide remained closed until further notice.

A large pile of rocks, dirt and debris covers the beach sand, as a portion of the cliffside above crumbled. A destroyed beach access staircase could be seen in the rubble.
