Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday (7 January) said that the government is on alert regarding China’s announcement to construct the world’s largest dam on the Brahmaputra River in Tibet, near the Indian border.

The reaction from Rajnath Singh came days after China announced its plan to construct the world's largest dam on the Brahmaputra, and India said it will continue to monitor and take necessary measures to protect its interests.

China reiterated its stand on Tuesday to build dam project in upstream belt of Brahmaputra in its own territory, saying it will “help” downstream countries, including India and Bangladesh, with their “disaster prevention and reduction and climate response”.
