India's aviation regulator has ordered the country's airlines to inspect fuel control switches in Boeing aeroplanes, after their reported involvement in a fatal Air India crash that killed 260 people in June.

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and Boeing have privately issued notifications that the fuel switch locks on Boeing planes are safe.

Indian investigators cited a 2018 FAA advisory that had warned Boeing operators to inspect the locking mechanism of fuel cutoff switches to prevent unintentional movement. However, the FAA had not mandated any action.
