Instagram, Meta and Threads
Threads and Instagram are for politics now, says Adam Mosseri
It’s been nearly a year since Instagram and Threads defaulted to blocking recommendations of “political” content from accounts you don’t already follow, but now Instagram boss Adam Mosseri says, “...we’re going to be adding political content to recommendations” on both platforms.
Meta Is Making Instagram Political Again
In a post on (where else?) Threads, Mosseri said the company will be shifting away from its opt-in requirement for users to see political content. Instead, political content will be recommended by default, and users will have the ability to adjust the fire hose with three different settings options: less, standard, and more.
Meta: We're Bringing Back Political Content on Instagram and Threads, Too
Instagram chief Adam Mosseri argued that having political content on Threads comes with too many 'integrity risks.' But Meta's recent push to 'restore free expression' changes all that.
How Meta's content moderation changes will put more politics in your feed
Meta chief executive Mark Zuckerberg's announcement that the company plans to phase out fact-checkers largely overshadowed another, in which the social media company said it would soon be increasing the amount of political content on its platforms.
Instagram and Threads will now recommend political content
In a move users are calling "embarrassing" and lacking "courage," Instagram and Threads head Adam Mosseri announced that the platforms will be recommending political content to users once again.
Meta set to start showing political recommendations on Instagram, and Threads
Instagram head Adam Mosseri has stated that that platform will push more political content on Instagram and Threads in a phased manner nearly a year after restricting recommendations of political posts from accounts users don’t follow.
Politics content to be pushed on all Instagram and Threads users
Threads and Instagram users will no longer be able to opt out of being shown political content from people they do not follow, parent company Meta has announced. The head of the platforms Adam Mosseri said it followed Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg's reorienting the company towards "free expression" - a move that saw it ditch fact checkers on Tuesday.
Meta Set to Allow More Political Content on Instagram and Threads
This change will mainly affect creators who post political content on both platforms. The move will help them get a better reach on the platform. This was not possible with Instagram’s current policy of blocking political posts for users who don’t already follow such accounts. Essentially shadowbanning their accounts and limiting their audience.
