Kyiv is working with allies on security guarantees akin to NATO's mutual protection pledge, Ukraine's president Volodymr Zelensky has said. Officials from Ukraine and allies the U.S., the U.K., France and Germany met in London on Thursday in a week when a peace proposal was produced which outlined an Article 5-like agreement which would be backed by Washington.

President Zelensky emphasizes that Ukraine will not legally recognize the occupied territories as Russia's. As for the position on NATO, set out in response to Trump's peace plan, he noted that Moscow should not have the right to veto Ukraine's accession to the Alliance. Although there is no talk of joining in the foreseeable future.

According to the outlet, the U.S. administration presented its plan in Paris last week, and it involves major concessions from Kyiv. These include Washington’s recognition of Crimea as Russian territory and Ukraine’s surrender of large swaths of land to the invading state.
