Lawmakers convicted of felonies tied to their government jobs, like ex-House Speaker Michael Madigan, are banned from receiving legislative pensions.

Mike Madigan, a former state Democratic Party chair, had been the longest-serving chamber leader in U.S. history. A jury has found him guilty of multiple counts in a wide-ranging bribery scandal.

“Michael Madigan, who stood at the very top of state government, stands convicted of 10 counts of bribery and corruption,” acting U.S. Attorney Morris Pasqual declared. While Madigan’s jury found him guilty on 10 counts, it was deadlocked on the biggest charge, racketeering conspiracy.
