MANILA, Philippines (AP) — A plane carrying arrested former Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte left Manila Tuesday night for him to be turned over to the International Criminal Court in The Hague which has ordered his arrest for alleged crimes against humanity, President Ferdinand Marcos said.

Rights groups say tens of thousands of unarmed suspects were murdered in extrajudicial killings during Duterte’s war on drugs.

Former Filipino President Rodrigo Duterte was arrested on an International Criminal Court warrant for his war on drugs while president. After returning from Hong Kong, the former strongman was detained by Filipino authorities at Manila International Airport.
