LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Lakers’ game against the Charlotte Hornets scheduled for Thursday night at Crypto.com Arena has been postponed because of the raging wildfires in Los Angeles, the NBA announced Thursday. The league said a makeup date would be announced “at a later time.”

Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick, who lives in Palisades, said Tuesday that his family had to evacuate their home due to the encroaching fire and smoke. Redick and the Lakers were not in Los Angeles, but in Texas tor a game against the Dallas Mavericks.

"Obviously the game is secondary to that and to many things in life. Perspective is important," Warriors coach Steve Kerr said of the fires.

With flames driven by hurricane-force winds, “it feels like Armageddon,” said one woman who was forced to evacuate. “It’s just smoke and darkness.”
