US President Joe Biden on Thursday will award Liz Cheney, a former Republican congresswoman and fierce critic of Donald Trump, with a citizens service medal, after the incoming president warned that she "could be in a lot of trouble" with the law once he takes office.

Trump calls climate change a hoax. The Trump transition team did not respond to a request for comment. But his former national security adviser, Robert C. O’Brien, suggested on Sunday that climate change was one factor in Trump’s interest in acquiring Greenland.

Outgoing President Joe Biden will award the second-highest civilian medal to two of Donald Trump’s political foes, in a final affront to the president-elect before he takes office. Liz Cheney and Bennie Thompson will be honored with the Presidential Citizens Medal for their work in leading the congressional investigation into the U.

Two close advisers to President Biden will also be honored, in addition to career lawmakers who have worked across the aisle and advocates for liberal causes.
