But Tina Potthoff, spokesperson for Hy-Vee, said the supermarket chain is replacing Tone's spices with those of the much larger Maryland-based McCormick & Co. because Tone's could not keep stores adequately supplied.

"Tone’s Spices have been an Iowa tradition for over 150 years, originating in Des Moines and cherished by generations of Iowans," a statement reads. "Tone’s mini spices bottles are carried at Price Chopper Des Moines stores and select Fareway stores.
