The first ever blizzard warning has been issued for parts of the Texas and Louisiana coast as a historic snowstorm hits the South.

Winter weather arrived in the Houston area late Monday night. A Winter Storm Warning was issued ahead of potential snow, ice, and sleet across the area. Three to five inches of snow is expected, with higher totals possible.

Storm Enzo is doing as predicted: dumping heavy snow on Southeast Texas in the early morning hours on Tuesday. Residents from College Station to the Houston metropolitan area recorded sustained snowfalls across the region.

Snow was falling in New Orleans, where as much as 8 inches were expected to accumulate by the end of the day, threatening to tie a record set in 1895.

A winter storm was on a track to sweep through Texas and Louisiana, across the Gulf Coast and deep into Florida, significant snow and ice in tow.
