Following a sexual assault incident at Anna University, Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi, as the chancellor, has directed university officials to prioritize student safety. He met with faculty and students to discuss security improvements and ensure swift action to address safety concerns.

Protests erupted in Chennai after an incident of sexual assault emerged from Anna University, where a second-year engineering student was reportedly assaulted while she was with a male friend on the campus on Monday. The Greater Chennai police swiftly arrested a 37-year-old man, identified as Gnanasekaran, who sells biryani on the pavement nearby.

The Madras High Court on Saturday (December 28) ordered the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising three women IPS officers to investigate the Anna University sexual assault case.

The governor interacted with students and listened to their perspectives, recommendations and suggestions to make the campus a safe and secure place.

The accused, identified as 37-year-old Gnanasekaran, allegedly attacked the male friend before dragging the survivor behind a building and sexually assaulting her.
