OpenAI has introduced its latest AI models, o3 and o3-mini, designed to enhance reasoning, coding proficiency, and problem-solving.

For the last day of ship-mas, OpenAI previewed a new set of frontier “reasoning” models dubbed o3 and o3-mini. The Verge first reported that a new reasoning model would be coming during this event. The company isn’t releasing these models today (and admits final results may evolve with more post-training).

ChatGPT Pro, as the $200 per month subscription is called, features a predecessor of the new o3 LLM. OpenAI also released its Sora video generator and a bevy of smaller product updates. The company has not detailed how o3 works or when it might become available to customers.

OpenAI just wrapped up its 12-day event called “Shipmas” where it made some amazing announcements. As a proper send-off, OpenAI introduced us to o3, its upcoming reasoning model, and it looks like it will be extremely smart.

OpenAI announced its new flagship o3 model as a successor to its o1 reasoning model. It also sports incredible coding capabilities and is up to three times better at handling tasks and answering complex queries.
