Venezuelans once again watched as Nicolás Maduro was sworn into office on Friday, donning the executive sash and declaring himself president despite irregularities and questions around his election.

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro was sworn in Friday to serve a third six-year term, extending his increasingly repressive rule until 2031 despite protests and credible evidence that his opponent won the election.

Nicolas Maduro was sworn in for his third term as president on Friday, January 10, in Caracas, Venezuela.This follows a disputed July election in which both Maduro and the opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez claimed victory.
