Russia launched a New Year's Day drone strike on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv early on Wednesday, killing two people, wounding at least six others and damaging buildings in two districts, authorities said.

Wreckage from a Russian drone fell on a residential building in Kyiv's Pecherskyi district on the morning of 1 January, partially destroying the top two floors and causing a fire. Two people have been killed as a result of the attack.
