Elon Musk has launched his most high-profile appeal to try and influence British politics, but the approach is unlikely to prove effective.

As part of a recent spike of interest in British affairs and an hours-long posting spree on his social media platform, X, on Friday morning—which included attacks on the country’s current Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and controversial demands for the release of a imprisoned right-wing rabble rouser—Elon Musk suggested that the United Kingdom’s parliament should be dissolved entirely.

The last time a British King dissolved parliament was King William IV in 1831. Since then, decorum and the law have greatly reduced the monarch's power.
