Canada canceled a digital service tax on U.S. technology companies this week in order to preserve trade talks with U.S. President Donald Trump, but another irritant, in agriculture, could be a bigger thorn in the ongoing negotiations.

Canada will rescind a tax on big US technology firms, just hours before first payments were due, to allow trade talks between the two countries to restart. On Friday, US President Donald Trump called off negotiations over a trade deal, describing the tax as a "blatant attack", and threatened higher tariffs on imports from Canada.

“We can get back to negotiations,” National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett said Monday on Fox News. Hassett said on CNBC that he expected digital-services taxes to factor in negotiations between the U.S. and other trading partners such as Japan and the European Union.
