As the Royal Rumble nears, WWE stars are announcing their intent to compete for the chance to get a championship match at WrestleMania.

With the cast of characters involved and a myriad of storylines, the 2025 Royal Rumble should be the biggest and best in the history of WWE.

Sometimes the runner-up can be a massive name or contender, but others have been, in hindsight especially, awful choices at coming second. Fans have groaned at some of these wrestlers who finished second, as they either showed no threat to winning the match or else the booking decision to have them so close to winning was a mistake.
