When the Rays and development partner Hines were selected to redevelop the Gas Plant District last year, elected officials and baseball fans across Tampa Bay had hoped it would end years of uncertainty surrounding the fate of the site and the team’s future in the region.

A source with the Orlando Dreamers says they have a majority owner ready to buy Tampa Bay Rays and move them to Orlando.

While much of Tampa Bay seems to be vacillating between anger, disappointment and frustration over Stuart Sternberg’s decision Thursday to pull out of a new stadium deal, the Rays have been oddly upbeat about the situation.

The Rays ownership group announced on Thursday that they wouldn't be pursuing a new ballpark in the area after all, leading to questions about the organization's future. Fans were predictably not happy on social media.
