Cartoonist Jules Feiffer, best known for his eponymous comic strip in The Village Voice, has died. He was 95. Feiffer died of congestive heart failure at his home in upstate New York, his representative Gail Hochman confirmed to USA TODAY in an email Tuesday.

NEW YORK — Jules Feiffer, a Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist and writer whose prolific output ranged from a long-running comic strip to plays, screenplays and children’s books, died Friday. He was 95 and, true to his seemingly tireless form, published his last book just four months ago.

Feiffer was best known for illustrating the children's classic "The Phantom Tollbooth." His loopy lines left a lasting mark on art, literature and film.
