National Hurricane Center tracking tropical wave moving toward Caribbean. Will it strengthen?
The National Hurricane Center is monitoring two tropical waves: The axis of an eastern Atlantic tropical wave is near 31W/32W S of 18N, and moving west around 17 mph. Scattered moderate to isolated strong convection is noted from 06N to 12N between 30W and 34W.
Forecasters predict Lorenzo will turn north and then east well away from Florida and the United States, and could make a partial clockwise loop in the tropical central Atlantic. Lorenzo is the 12th named storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season and the third storm to form since Oct. 1.
Hurricane Melissa has strengthened back into a Category 2 hurricane after devastating Jamaica, Cuba and the Bahamas and is heading toweard Bermuda.
