The NIH’s budget for fiscal 2019 is $39.1 billion, after three consecutive years with $2 billion increases. House Democrats are proposing another $2 billion increase for fiscal 2020.

With 20,262 employees, NIH is Montgomery County’s largest employer, followed by Walter Reed, which had 11,686 employees in 2011, according to county planning documents.
