Indigenous leader and lawyer Michael Mansell has proposed Indigenous Australians form a seventh Aboriginal state that would have the same powers and recognition as the six other Australian states.

Senator's Lambie's complaint to the Human Rights Commission focuses on on public comments made by Mr Mansell in 2022 including that 'poor whites' are falsely claiming to be Aboriginal.

Michael Mansell, the chairman of the Aboriginal Land Council of Tasmania, said if the referendum fails on October 14, conversation within the Indigenous community could move toward treaty by November.
