Fresh off a grind-it-out win over the Houston Texans, the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-1) are preparing for a tilt Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers (3-0) in Northern California.
The 49ers would elevate backup QB Adrian Martinez from the practice squad if Purdy or Jones can't play. The Nebraska/Kansas State product starred for the Birmingham Stallions in the UFL during the 2024 season. That year, he won both the league MVP and the UFL Championship MVP awards.
In the 17-13 season-opening win vs. the Seattle Seahawks, Purdy completed 26 of 35 passes for 277 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions despite having tight end George Kittle and wide receiver Jauan Jennings exit the game early. He threw the game-winning touchdown to backup tight end Jake Tonges with 1:34 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Purdy sat out his second straight game with a toe injury suffered in the Week 1 win over the Seahawks. He is also nursing a left shoulder injury. Jones also started in his place last week against the Saints, throwing for 279 yards and three touchdowns.
The San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals are set to kick off on Sunday, and they'll be without a few players, who have been deemed inactive.
